When to Schedule Heating Maintenance
- Fall (September–November) — before first cold snap
- Annually for residential, twice a year for commercial
- Before any major weather event or extended cold spell
- When buying a home with an older heating system
- If you haven’t had service in over 12 months
- After a power surge or storm
What’s Included in a Heating Tune-Up
Burner inspection + cleaning (gas)
Dirty burners = uneven heat + wasted gas. We clean and adjust them properly.
Heat exchanger inspection
A cracked heat exchanger leaks carbon monoxide. We inspect every year — non-negotiable safety check.
Igniter + flame sensor check
These two parts cause ~40% of all furnace no-heat calls. We test and replace if marginal.
Carbon monoxide test
CO meter reading inside the home + at the flue. Any abnormal reading and we shut the system down for safety.
Heat pump defrost cycle test
For heat pumps — we verify the defrost board, reversing valve, and outdoor sensors. Bad defrost = ice buildup + compressor damage.
Electrical connections + capacitors
Loose connections = electrical fires. We tighten, test, and replace any marginal capacitors.
Filter check + airflow verification
Restricted airflow = overheated furnace = cracked heat exchanger long-term. We catch this.

Frequently Asked Questions
I have a heat pump. Do I still need fall maintenance?
Yes — heat pumps run year-round and need 2 tune-ups (spring + fall). Comfort Club covers both.
Why is heat exchanger inspection important?
A cracked heat exchanger leaks carbon monoxide into your home. CO is invisible and odorless. Annual inspection is the only way to catch it before it kills.
What if you find a problem during the tune-up?
Tech will give you a flat-rate written quote. You decide whether to fix it. Comfort Club members get 15% off any repairs found.
Can you tune up my old oil furnace?
Yes. We service oil furnaces, gas furnaces, electric heat pumps, dual-fuel hybrids, and most boiler systems.
